今日は、大安吉日。大阪天王寺駅を発った列車は、南紀方面に旅行する新婚組で超満員だった。専務車掌の並木大作（フランキー堺）は、目のやり場に困りながら職務の検札に廻っていた。その大作にも、ひそかに想いを寄せる女性があった。その相手は、新宮駅前の寿司屋の娘雪子（新珠三千代）だった。
