ASARCO Stack: Bricks, Cheers, & Tears

ASARCO arrived in Tacoma in 1905 and soon became a significant force in the economic development of the region. Stack construction was completed in a year’s time on December 22nd, 1917. On January 17th, 1993 the 562 foot ASARCO stack was brought down in 8 seconds with 450 lbs of explosives.
