He made his directorial debut in 1967 with Nel sole, a film that achieved significant success and featured the popular singing duo Al Bano and Romina Power. Grimaldi continued to collaborate with the duo in subsequent films, including L'oro del mondo (1968) and Pensando a te (1969). Beyond musicarelli, he directed several commedie sexy all'italiana, such as When Women Were Called Virgins (1972). Grimaldi's films are noted for their light-hearted narratives and integration of contemporary music, reflecting the cultural trends of Italy during his active years.
