Tamir Anshtein is an award-winning Australian-Jewish filmmaker known for his thought-provoking films that explore personal Jewish history and the Soviet refugee experience. Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, he moved to Australia at the age of seven. His work is deeply influenced by his family's untold stories and the literary traditions of Soviet-era Jewish and non-Jewish writers, aiming to universalize the experience of Jews & Russian Jewish refugees. Anshtein's films have received international recognition. Trial and Error (2022), a Holocaust film told from a Nazi's perspective, was a finalist at the Cannes World Film Festival and the Papa International Historical Film Festival, and was featured in publication FilmInk. His short film Old Faces (2024) was selected for the Lift-Off Filmmaker Sessions, and Levadia International Film Festival (L.I.F.F.). Someone Important (2024), was also selected for Lift-Off Filmmaker Sessions. His films have played in French, Hungarian, English and Greek cinemas.
