At the age of seven, he moved with his family to Makhachkala, where he seriously engaged in freestyle wrestling from the age of twelve, then moved to Moscow to train in the Trudovye Rezervy sports society. He began his sports career as a freestyle wrestler, became a bronze medalist of the Dagestan championship, champion and multiple medalist of the Moscow championship, champion and medalist of international master tournaments, master of sports of Russia in freestyle wrestling. During his service in the Railway Troops of the Russian Federation, he mastered the technique of army hand-to-hand combat and also regularly competed: prize-winner of the international memorial tournament of Army General V.F.
