His work has an essential influence on artists like Bertolt Brecht, Samuel Beckett, Loriot and Helge Schneider. He developed a reputation for writing and performing short comic routines, which he performed in a strong Bavarian dialect, usually with his female partner, Liesl Karlstadt.
